10 Tips for Taking Your Minecraft Interior Design Skills to the Next Level (1)

During our Weekly Workshop this past weekend, everyone got to share their favorite tips related to interior decorating and design in Minecraft. Everyone who attended split up and went to find the perfect mansion to add those final interior design touches to. If you want to add your own tips or furniture ideas, I'd love to see them! Please post them to our community corkboard so everyone else can learn, too! If you've got a few minutes to spare, watch the full walkthrough video, or just skip to the individual tips below.

LiveLoveMine's Floor & Design Tips

"Glowstone and bookshelves go really well together and work great for libraries. Another good combination is iron and leaf flooring. I use this for really big, impressive structures." -LiveLoveMine

My personal favorite floor design is the iron block/pine leaf design. It looks so elegant!

NEWDeStRoY1's Lighting Tips

"Make sure to use appropriate lighting that suits your build. If it is a ruin or related, you should use darker lighting and black wool to suck out light. If it is a regular household, you need to keep all areas lit with glowstone or lamps!" -NEWDeStRoY1

Black wool is a great option, if you're looking to get a room as dark as possible. As you can see in the image below, it's almost solid black!

TehGeekFather's Bathroom Tip #2

TehGeekFather also made a bathroom with a mirror (featured in his Weekly Challenge build). He used glass to act as the mirror, and replicated the room on the other side of the glass.

TehGeekFather's Floor Designs

"Wool and stone slabs make a neat checkerboard pattern." -TehGeekFather

I completely agree with this tip, as it's my go-to floor design for my kitchens! The way the grey outline on the slabs blends with the black wool makes it look like it's "meant to be" in any gourmet kitchen!

He also included this design of nether brick and sandstone. I absolutely love this flooring as well, as the contrast is simply stunning. When working with a floor design similar to this one, keep your design simple! Simplicity will go a long way when it comes to this kind of contrast.

Artemis1020's Room Divider

Artemis created a great room divider out of wooden stairs. This is the perfect addition to separate two rooms while adding some great detail.

Can't you just imagine family portraits sitting on the shelves?

Throne Chairs

I personally really like this design for "throne" chairs. I love sticking these at the ends of a dining table, it really adds that realism that is generally much needed in Minecraft!

TIP: Add colored wool to the back to give it a "seat cushion" look!

Carpet Design

This is my personal favorite carpet design, and I generally always use something similar for my living rooms. All you do is make a design with wooden stairs. As you can see, I made a zig-zag type pattern. Surround the outside with some colored wool to soften it up, and you're good to go!

Outdoor Fireplace

This simple fireplace is made out of brick blocks, stone half slabs, 1 netherrack and 1 glass pane. It's the perfect addition for your living room or family room and is so simple to make. This small detail can really bring your room to life if you're looking for the last detail.

Side view of fireplace is below. If you notice, the front middle does not have a half slab; instead it is a brick block.

Modern Bed

This is my favorite bed to make, as it's very modern. It has a foot bench, two end tables, two night tables, a headboard, and of course... a bed!
