"I don't even like Pork, but was tricked into tasting this dish when I was told it was chicken. WOW! The meat was sooo tender and juicy; so tender in fact, that it was literally falling apart! It was like nothing I'd ever tasted before! Definitely not like my mother's hard, crusty pork chops! lol! This recipes goes hand in hand w/ some mashed potatoes. Just pour the leftover gravy on the taters' and enjoy!"

 2. This was far the best dish I have had in the crockpot. It was so easy to make and just delicious. My DH said it was 5 stars, a real keeper. He really liked the gravy thought it was just perfect. Thanks so much this will surely be in our meal plans from now on.

 3. This was VERY good and SO easy to make. In a blink of an eye they were gone. Kind of annoyed me....never got MY "seconds".

For those that have complained that there is not enough taste, makes me wonder which broth they used. Make sure to use CONDENSED chicken broth as that has more flavor then regular chicken broth and is better for the gravy.
It usually will be found with the Cambell's soups not with the Swanson chicken broth.
I've tried MANY receipes that were disapointing, this one is a keeper!!

 4. We loved this, I cooked it on low for 6 hours and it was wonderful and I normally don't do crockpot cooking, but something about this sounded delicious and it was.Served with Mysterygirls Mile Hig Biscuits that I HIGHLY recommend, mashed potatoes, and steamed broccoli... an excellent meal. Thank you!

 5. Excellent! I used a box of chicken broth instead of condensed broth and it was perfect. Gravy was very tasty I added gravy browning to make it a better color. I followed the recipe exactly making sure I browned the chops really well. I am not sure why there is such a large variance in cooking times. After two hours I checked and they were very tender and delicious so I did not cook them any more. Thanks!

 2. I rounded up on the Flour, Salt, Garlic Powder to 1 cup and 3tbs+1/2 tsp Veg Oil, This is for the 10 servings. I'll let you all know how it turns out.

 3. I'm amazed at how delicious and easy this recipe is -- the whole family loved it. I used homemade broth and make a couple of flavor additions -- replaced about 1/3 of the wheat flour with masa harina, and added an Italian herb blend (Penzey's Tuscan Sunset). Falling-apart done in less than 3 hours, and the gravy was smooth and delicious over rice.

 4. Wow, not only was this easy to make, it tasted FABULOUS!! I threw this in the crockpot yesterday before heading off to our sons last 2 baseball games of the season, and came home to the house smelling awesome, and dinner ready to go! I did 6 chops (bone in), used Old Bay Seasoning instead of salt, and chicken boullion (doubled the boullion to more closely match the condensed stock the recipe called for. Since we love gravy, I mixed up another gravy for the top of the chops. I'll use this again and again, thanks for posting!!!

FAQs

Is it better to cook pork chops low or slow? ›

Typically, when we cook at high temperature, we over cook the pork. This leaves it dry and tough. As with my dad's pork chops, grilling is a high temperature cooking method. While I recommend cooking low and slow, I emphasize the word slow.

Can you slow cook pork chops too long? ›

Since pork chops lack the fat of the cuts used for true pulled pork, chops cooked longer than two hours tend to taste a little chewy and dry despite the fact that they are fork-tender. To make up for it, spoon all that delicious cooking liquid over the chops to give them some extra moisture.

How do you cook pork chops so they are not chewy? ›

This method for making perfect pork chops is simple—first, the chops are seared in a very hot pan for about 3 minutes, then they're flipped and cooked the rest of the way in the oven. Preparing them this way ensures that they're cooked through but not overcooked. No one wants tough, dry chops.

What is the secret to juicy pork chops? ›

Fat is key to keeping pork chops moist

Basting them with fat, such as butter. Add in aromatics while basting for more flavor — similar to how you might cook a steak — and then you have the added bonus of browned butter and crispy garlic and/or herbs to serve with the meat.

Why are my pork chops tough in the slow cooker? ›

Because pork chops are such a lean cut, they are relatively quick-cooking and prone to overcooking. When they're cooked for even a few minutes too long, whether it's in the oven or on the stovetop or grill, they're quick to dry out, and — you guessed it — become tough, chewy, and less than appealing.

How do you make pork soft and tender? ›

Sear the pork, then bake it.

For instance, you might sear your pork in a hot pan on the stove (or on the grill), then transfer your pork to the oven (or move it to a cooler area of the grill and close the lid) for the rest of its cooking time. The indirect heat is vital to keeping your pork tender and juicy.

What should I season pork chops with? ›

 3. 3 teaspoons pepper.
 4. 2 teaspoons brown sugar.
 5. 2 teaspoons garlic powder.

 8. 1/2 teaspoon sage (optional)

Are pork chops better in the oven or on the stove? ›

Cooking pork chops in the oven can yield to a tender and juicy meat. Brine bone-in pork chops then sear them first before finishing them off in the oven.

Is it better to cook pork chops on high or low heat? ›

For chops, we like to get our pan screaming hot...then take it down to medium. That first blast of heat helps get a good golden crust. But, if you keep it that high, the chop won't cook evenly through the middle. Medium heat helps keep the outer edges of the meat tender while the center reaches the perfect temperature.

How do you keep pork from drying out in a slow cooker? ›

Cooking a lean roast like pork tenderloin in a slow cooker is tricky because it can quickly turn overcooked and dry. We discovered that nestling two tenderloins side by side, alternating the narrow and thicker ends, helped to insulate the meat and prevented it from overcooking.

How long is it safe to slow cook pork? ›

Cover with the lid and cook, undisturbed, for 8 hours. Open the slow cooker and use a food thermometer to check the internal temperature of the pork shoulder. Make sure the pork reached a temperature of 145°F (63°C) and allow the pork to rest for 3 minutes to kill germs that could make you sick.

Does soaking pork chops in salt water make them tender? ›

A brine is essentially just salt and water. It helps prevent moisture loss during cooking, and the salt also helps tenderize the meat from the inside out. If you want an extra juicy piece of pork, brine it before cooking. You can make an effective brine just with salt and water, but additional seasonings do help.

Should I cook pork chops in butter or oil? ›

I use both! At the same time! The butter helps achieve that golden brown color and adds more flavor, but you need the oil, too, because it has a higher smoke point and keeps the butter from burning. How long do you cook pork chops in a frying pan?

Why are my smothered pork chops tough? ›

You could go thinner or thicker with the pork chops, but be sure to not overcook them or they'll become tough. To help avoid this with thinner cuts, cook the pork chops just until they're seared, then immediately pull them to make the gravy.

Should you cook pork chops on low or high heat? ›

Grilling pork chops is quick, taking about 20 minutes over medium-high heat, depending on the recipe and the thickness of the meat. You can brine the chops pre-grilling or simply brush them lightly with oil, season them, and throw them on the grates.

Do you use low and slow or high heat for pork chops?

Is pork best cooked slow or fast? ›

The flavour of pork benefits from slow roasting, espeically in stews or casseroles that prevent the meat from drying out. That all-time favourite – pork belly – is one of the best and most popular cuts to slow roast. And it'a cheap too, making it ideal for the times.

Should pork be cooked on high or low? ›

Pork shoulder and ribs should be cooked for a long time at a temperature at or below 275°F until the meat is tender. For this reason, these cuts are often used in slow-cooker recipes because the slow cooker gently cooks the meat at a lower temperature for hours at a time.
