114 SUN, Sunday, August 7, 1983 J. J. Hinson, retired teacher Funeral services for Jesse James Hinson, a retired Baltimore schoolteacher, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St John's Huntingdon Episcopal Church, Greenmount avenue and Old York road. 40 Mr.

Hinson, who was 82, died Thursday of heart failure following emergency abdominal surgery Tuesday at the Wyman Park Health System Hospital. A native of Clayton, he began his ca-reer as a cadet in the Student Army Corps of Alabama during World War I. During World War II, he was an artillery officer in Europe, commanding the troops that liberated Monte Carlo from the Germans. He also commanded Japanese-American troops in Italy under Gen. Mark W.

Clark. Mr. Hinson also was operations officer for Indiantown Gap Military Reservation, during the Korean War. He returned to active duty during the 1958 crisis in Lebanon. He held a bachelor's degree from the University of Alabama and a master's degree from the University of Virginia, and studied at the Johns Hopkins University.

In the early 1930s, he taught physics, chemistry and mathematics at City College. After he left the Army in 1945, Mr. Hinson rejoined the faculty of City College, where he remained until retiring in 1967. He remained active in various organizations after retiring, including the Retired Officer's Association, The National Sojourners, Boumi Temple's One Hundred Club and the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry. He also was a volunteer at the Wyman Park Hospital and a former vestryman of St.

"John's Church. Mr. Hinson married Ruth Clarinda Patterson, of Baltimore, in 1930. She died in 1981. He is survived by two daughters, Carol Lee Hinson, of Baltimore, and Lou Ellen Griffin, of co*ckeysville; two sons, Thomas P.

Hinson, of Towson, and Jesse J. Hinson of Baltimore; four sisters, Lorene Phillips, of Fontana, Hettye H. Harper, of Demopolis, Carolyn Portier, of Los Angeles, and Louette Mobley, of Rock Hill, S. and three grandchildren. The family suggests that contributions be sent to St.

John's Huntingdon Episcopal Church. Olga Menzel Bruning Memorial services for Olga Menzel Bruning, a retired secretary with the U.S. diplomatic corps who served in Chile and Peru in the 1920s, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Immanuel Episcopal Church in Glencoe. Mrs.

Bruning, 87, died Thursday at Greater Baltimore Medical Center after a heart attack. For nearly 40 years, she worked with her husband, Armin J. Bruning, in the family business, the Bruning Brothers Paint Company of Baltimore. Mr. Bruning died in 1961.

In the mid-1920s, she was secretary to the ambassador to Chile, serving in Chile and Peru. Before that, she worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Seattle and in Alaska. Born in Baltimore, she grew up in Washington, where she graduated from Central High School and attended a secretarial school. For most of her life, she lived on her 97- acre farm in Glencoe. After her husband's death she became active in the Bykota House, an organization for senior citizens in Towson.

Mrs. Bruning is survived by a son, Armin M. Bruning, of Arlington, a daughter, Olga M. Bruning, of co*ckeysville; six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Deaths elsewhere Judy Canova, a country singer and comedian whose career spanned the "Ziegfeld Follies" on Broadway and "The Love Boat" on television, died of cancer Friday at a Hollywood (Calif.) hospital.

She was 69. Miss Canova's career included many stage performances, including "Calling All Stars" and "No No Nanette;" roles in films including "Artists and Models," Puddin' Head," "Sleepy Time Gal," "Huckleberry Finn" and "Cannonball," and numerous television appearances. She also hosted "'The Judy Canova Show" on NBC radio for 12 years and was a recording artist for RCA. J. Olive Huot, a former one-term congressman from New Hampshire, died Friday in Laconia, N.

H. He was 65. During the 1964 Lyndon B. Johnson landslide, Mr. Huot upset incumbent Republican Louis C.

Wyman for New Hampshire's 1st District seat. He had lost to Mr. Wyman by 7,000 votes in 1962. Mr. Wyman defeated him again in 1966.

After leaving Congress, Mr. Huot returned to the real estate business he owned in Laconia. Before going to Congress he was advertising manager for The Laconia Citizen from 1956 to 1964. Later, he was general manager of The Lakes Region Trader, a weekly published by the Citizen. John Gaw Meem, a leading exponent of the "Santa Fe style" of architecture, died Thursday at the age of 88.

From 1924, when he set up shop in Santa Fe, N.M., until his retirement about 20 years ago, Mr. Meem became known regionally and nationally as an architect who used traditional Spanish Pueblo lines and building styles, carrying them out in both adobe and modern materials. He was also instrumenial in 1948 in giving Santa Fe one of the country's first comprehensive zoning ordinances to preserve the distinctive look of the New Mexico state capital. As early as the 1920s he worked to restore the Spanish missions that dotted his part of the country.
