As a person who has ventured into graphic design, I believe you have the curiosity of a cat. The more curious you are about various design genres the better you become at designing. Try various industries, a logo for a restaurant and a bank are two different behemoths. You can learn a lot by just switching these 2. Both serve the customers with very different services and this strains you to think harder.

It's always Great idea to start with the standard software like Adobe Photoshop/ Illustrator. In my POV most of the designer disagree with Canva but the begginers who are willing to learn design skill can start with Canva to learn the basics of fundamental designing like Colour theory, allignments, sizes etc.But I always recommend to start with Adobe Photoshop to be a master in designing.

One of the best ways to improve your graphic design skills is to find your inspiration from other sources, such as art, nature, culture, history, or current events. Inspiration can help you generate new ideas, overcome creative blocks, and discover new possibilities for your designs. You can find inspiration by browsing online galleries, magazines, books, or social media, or by visiting museums, exhibitions, or local events. You can also create your own mood boards, sketches, or collections of images that inspire you.

No matter how good you are at graphic design, there is always room for improvement. You should seek feedback and criticism from other designers, clients, colleagues, or mentors, and use it to refine your skills and learn from your mistakes. You should also evaluate your own work objectively and identify your strengths and weaknesses. You can use online tools, such as surveys, analytics, or testing platforms, to measure the effectiveness and impact of your designs.

In graphic design, continuous improvement is vital. Constructive feedback is a powerful tool for growth, allowing designers to view their work through a fresh lens and identify areas for enhancement. Embracing criticism, rather than shying away from it, can lead to significant skill development and innovation in design. Moreover, self-assessment paired with data-driven analysis from online tools can provide objective insights, helping to fine-tune both the aesthetic and functional aspects of design work.

Bonus point: Be ready for negative and positive feedback back to back. There will be some cases where you have to do many iterations, and it will not make sense but don't lose hope. Keep the grind going and you will make it. Always take time to party and explore the unexplored as that will fill your soul to be a better designer. P.S. Keep your files organized. Create a file management system and follow it deeply.
